MALIBU, Calif. – The Pepperdine women's soccer team earned the program's 13th all-time bid into the NCAA Women's Soccer Tournament, as announced by the NCAA on Monday afternoon.
The Waves (9-4-5, 6-2 West Coast Conference) will take on #2 Stanford (15-0-4), the #2 seed in the 2023 NCAA Tournament, in the first round at 6 p.m. on Friday in Palo Alto, Calif. Pepperdine received an at-large bid to the Tournament and a second-place finish in the West Coast Conference. The Waves are 5-3-2 in away games this season, and 2-1 all-time against Stanford.
Pepperdine is making its 13th NCAA Tournament appearance overall — all of which have come under current head coach Tim Ward. The squad's furthest run has been to the Sweet 16 four times (2002, 2005, 2014, 2021). The last time the Waves appeared in the NCAA Tournament was in 2021, making it to Round 16, facing the number one seed, and eventual Tournament champions, Florida State.
The winner between Pepperdine and Stanford will go on to play either James Madison or 7-seed South Carolina in the next round.
Gonzaga and Santa Clara are the other WCC teams to make it to the field.
Tickets for the NCAA Women's Soccer Championship first-round match will go on sale to the public at tickets.gostanford.com on Wednesday, November 8 at 9 a.m. PT.
