MALIBU, Calif. — The #5 Pepperdine water polo team fell 13-10 to #14 San Jose State on Saturday afternoon at Spartan Recreation and Aquatic Center.

- Graduate driver Ryan Brosnan (Newport Beach, Calif./Newport Harbor HS/UC Santa Barbara) had three goals in the game.
- Freshman utility Jon Carcarey (Lompoc, Calif./Orange Lutheran HS) picked up a hat-trick in the game.
- Senior attacker Anthony D'Ambra (Rolling Hills, Calif./Palos Verdes HS) picked up a goal and an assist today.
GAME RECAP
Carcarey gave the Waves a 1-0 lead as he found the back of the net within the first two minutes of the game. The Spartans then scored three straight goals to take a 3-1 advantage. A goal late in the period by D'Ambra brought Pepperdine within one at the end of the first quarter, 3-2.
Ryan Brosnan (Newport Beach, Calif./Newport Harbor HS/UC Santa Barbara) and
Clay Kaneko (Huntington Beach, Calif./Mater Dei HS) scored back-to-back goals to start the second quarter to give the Waves a 4-3 lead. San Jose State countered with two straight goals to take a 5-4 advantage. Carcarey and Brosnan scored the last three goals of the period to give the Waves a 7-5 lead heading into halftime.
A back-and-forth third quarter that saw goals from
Matty Walsh (Laguna Beach, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic HS) and
Christian Hosea (San Clemente HS) kept the Waves up by two heading into the fourth quarter, 9-7.
The Spartans scored the first four goals of the final period to give them an 11-9 advantage with just over three minutes to play. Brosnan then found the back of the cage to bring Pepperdine within one, but the Spartans scored twice to end the game and take a 13-10 victory over the Waves.
