MALIBU, Calif. — Competing in its lone exhibition game of the season, the Pepperdine women's basketball team beat Biola 56-50 in Firestone Fieldhouse on Friday night.
Seven of the 10 Pepperdine players who suited up scored points — including Emerita Mashaire (Helsinki, Finland/HBA Marsky), who scored a game-high 17 points. Graduate transfer Myra Gordon (Fort Worth, Texas/L.D. Bell HS) added 11 points, while senior Jane Nwaba (Carson, Calif./Palisades Charter HS) nearly had a double-double with 9 points and 11 rebounds.
Pepperdine had a 31-22 lead at halftime thanks to allowing only four points in the second quarter. The Waves would lead wire-to-wire in the second half while holding the Eagles to a mere 33% shooting from the floor — including 1-for-10 from three — in the final 20 minutes.
Biola's Jessa Thurman led the way for the Eagles with 15 points, while Trasara Alexander chipped in 10.
Pepperdine's season debut under interim head coach Kelsey Keizer is at home against UC Irvine on Tuesday, Nov. 7 at 6 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at tickets.pepperdinewaves.com.
