EAST LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Pepperdine swimming and dive program continued its strong weekend at day two of the La Verne Invite. The Waves lead the competition with a total of 1,186.5 points over the first two days.
MEET RECAP
Diving was highlighted by
Vivian Vallely (Newport Beach, Calif./Newport Harbor HS) who took second place in the 3-meter finals with a score of 284.85 and qualified for NCAA Zones later in the year. Vallely will compete in both the 1-meter and 3-meter NCAA Zones in March.
Swimming had solid performances in the finals on Saturday evening. The 200 medley relay team of
Kylie Taylor (Eugene, Ore./Churchill HS),
Charli Sunahara (Chino, Calif./Ruben S. Ayala HS),
Layla Busquets (Diablo, Calif./Monte Vista HS) and
Alexandra Browne (Arlington, Va./Washington-Liberty HS) took second in the event with a finals time of 1:43.56.
The foursome of
AJ Adams (Castle Rock, Colo./Valor Christian HS),
Lexi Fok (Moraga, Calif./Campolindo HS),
Ansley Halbach (Watkinsville, Ga./North Oconee HS) and
Anna Ryan (Alamo, Calif./Monte Vista HS) earned a third-place finish in the 800 free relay after clocking a time of 7:38.99.
Individuals for the Waves also found success in the finals on Saturday night. (Castle Rock, Colo./Valor Christian HS). Adams continued her stellar weekend as she took second in the 400 IM by posting a time of 4:29.81.
Anna Ryan (Alamo, Calif./Monte Vista HS) took first in the 100 breaststroke as she swam the event in 1:04.34. Taylor completed the 100 back in 56.40, which was good for second on the day.
The Waves have tallied 1,186.5 points over the first two days and hold a 19.5 point advantage over The University of San Diego heading into the final day of competition.
NEXT UP
Pepperdine swimmers will wrap up their weekend with the third day of the La Verne Invite on Sunday. Swimming prelims will begin at 9 a.m., with the finals to follow at 5 p.m.
Also on Sunday, Pepperdine's six divers will head to the Trojan Diving Invitational to compete in the women's platform competition. The prelims are set to begin at 11 a.m., and finals to follow at 12:20 p.m.
