SEATTLE, Wash. — Pepperdine Swim & Dive's Sophia Blietz, Aliyah Fan, and Jackie Johnson were all named to the MPSF Second Team the conference announced this morning.
"Achieving any sort of all conference honors in a ten team conference is special," said head coach Dan Marella. "The fact that all of our honorees are freshmen shows where this program is heading. I cannot be more proud of Jackie, Aliyah, and Sophia."
Jackie Johnson helped represent the dive team with a nod in the 1-meter. She scored 249.70 points to qualify for conference honors. The Omaha native came out of the gates swinging. In her first collegiate meet she broke the Pepperdine 3-meter record before also claiming the 1-meter mark later in the season. Her season concluded at the NCAA Diving Zone Qualifiers, becoming just the 11th Wave to attend.
Aliyah Fan earned recognition in the 100 fly, where she swam to a time of 54.72. The first-year stepped up to the occasion at conference championships. Her notable showing in Edinburg included three program records (two individual).
Sophia Blietz was named to the second team in the 200 back (2:02.80). A Pepperdine record-holder in this event (2:00.37), she also received MPSF Female Athlete of the Week honors in November. Blietz has also added her name to the school's top ten in the 100 back.
The future looks bright in Malibu, with each conference honoree having wrapped up just their inaugural campaign for the orange and blue.
