Waves Earn 2-1 Victory Over Pacific

MALIBU, Calif.  – The Pepperdine women's soccer team earned its first West Coast Conference win in the second week of play as the Waves defeated Pacific 2-1 on Wednesday afternoon at Tari Frahm Rokus Field.

The Waves (4-3-5, 1-1-0 WCC) went ahead early over the Tigers (6-6-1, 0-2-0 WCC) as Julia Quinonez found the back of the net in the 13th minute. Pacific then tied the game almost 10 minutes later, but right before the break Pepperdine earned a penalty kick that Kendall Campbell successfully converted on to give the Waves a 2-1 lead. Following half time, Pepperdine and Pacific went end-to-end, and the Waves shut down the Tigers and held onto the victory.

GOALS

Pepperdine 14': Freshman forward Julia Quinonez (Torrance, Calif./Torrance HS) brought the ball inside the box on the left side of the field. At about four yards inside the box, Quinonez let a right-footed rocket go that went right over the Tigers' keeper. This was Quinonez's third goal of the season.

Pacific 23': Alexis Pashales of Pacific tapped the ball from a Waves' defender and made her way to the top of the box. Pashales then sent a right-footed shot into the back of the net.

Pepperdine 43': The Waves were fouled just inside the box and earned a penalty kick. Redshirt freshman defender/forward Kendall Campbell (Palmdale, Calif./Paraclete HS) stepped up to the line and sent a right-footed shot and successfully converted her first career penalty kick attempt. This was Campbell's first goal of the season and first collegiate goal.
