OLYMPIA FIELDS, Illinois – The Pepperdine men's golf team opened up the new season with a 13th-place finish at the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational on Sunday.
The Waves posted a three-day total of 874 (289-289-296) at the par-70 Olympia Fields Country Club. This tournament featured each of the last four national champions (including Pepperdine in 2021) and six of the top 10 teams in the preseason coaches poll, as well as 10 participants ranked in the top 25.
PLAYER SCORES
- Graduate Sam Choi (Anaheim, Calif./New Mexico) tied for 26th place at 215 (72-68-75). He had one birdie on Sunday.
- Graduate Derek Hitchner (Minneapolis, Minn./The Blake School) tied for 39th at 218 (70-73-75). He had three birdies in the final round.
- Graduate Roberto Nieves (Miami, Fla./Delaware) tied for 50th at 221 (71-75-75).
- Senior William Mouw (Chino, Calif./Ontario Christian HS) tied for 60th at 223 (77-75-71). He had the Waves' best round on Sunday and posted three birdies.
- Graduate Luke Gifford (Boca Raton, Fla./South Florida) tied for 62nd at 224 (76-73-75). He had one birdie in the third round.

Pepperdine's second tournament of the fall is the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational, hosted by TCU in Fort Worth, Texas, from October 3-4.
