MALIBU, Calif. – The #14 Pepperdine women's soccer team came out hot and shut out San Diego State 4-0 on Sunday afternoon at Tari Frahm Rokus Field. Four different Waves found the back of the net and
Ellie Sommers collected her first solo shutout in a Pepperdine uniform.
From the start of the game, the Waves (3-0-1) put pressure on the Aztecs (2-1-1) and stayed in the offensive zone for most of the contest. Pepperdine had 18 shots in just the first half and held San Diego State to three shots each half. The Waves outshot the Aztecs overall 29-6.
GOALS
Pepperdine 19': Junior defender
Victoria Romero (Claremont, Calif./The Webb Schools) crashed down the left side of the field to about 25 yards out. Romero sent a through ball forward to junior forward
Tori Waldeck (Newhall, Calif./Hart HS) who was about 10 yards out. Waldeck sent a left-footed tap past the SDSU keeper. This was Waldeck's first goal of the season.
Pepperdine 36': Pepperdine earned a free kick off a foul by SDSU on the left side of the attacking zone. Redshirt senior defender
Trinity Watson (Ocean Beach, Calif./Point Loma HS) sent a pass off the set-piece to freshman forward
Tatum Wynalda (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Westlake HS), who jumped over an Aztec defender and set a header right into the back of the net. This was Wynalda's third goal of the season.
Pepperdine 62': Sophomore forward
Tabitha LaParl (Lakewood, Calif./Los Alamitos HS) brought the ball down the middle of the field into the offensive zone. As LaParl headed toward the box, LaParl sent a pass to redshirt senior forward
Leyla McFarland (Bonita, Calif./Eastlake HS) who was at top of the left side of the box. McFarland centered the ball to senior midfielder
Carlee Giammoma (Las Vegas, Nev./Palo Verde HS/Alabama) who was perfectly placed in the middle at the top of the box. Giammona sent a right-foot rocket into the back of the net. This was Giammona's third goal of the season.
Pepperdine 72': Giammona received a corner kick on the far left side and centered the ball in front of the goal. The ball rebounded off of one of the SDSU defenders and landed right at the foot of Romero, who forced a kick save by the SDSU goalkeeper, but the rebound went to freshman defender
Taylor Bloom (Huntington Beach, Calif./Orange Lutheran HS). Bloom had a right-footed shot to the top right corner and found the back of the net. This was Bloom's first collegiate goal.
