MALIBU, California – The Pepperdine men's and women's tennis programs will send a total of eight players to Illinois at the end of May for the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championship.
On the women's side, #15 Shiori Fukuda (Tokyo, Japan), #27 Lisa Zaar (Stockholm, Sweden), #40 Taisiya Pachkaleva (Moscow, Russia) and #59 Victoria Flores (Fort Dodge, Iowa) will compete in singles, while #42 Savannah Broadus (Carrollton, Texas) and Janice Tjen (Jakarta, Indonesia) will participate in doubles.
Fukuda, a top-16 seed, automatically earns the right to be an ITA All-American. This is the 22nd singles All-American in Pepperdine women's tennis program history, and the third consecutive season a Wave has earned that distinction.
On the men's side, #24 Daniel De Jonge (Vlissingen, Netherlands) will make his first appearance at the singles championship. #67 Tim Zeitvogel (Baden-Baden, Germany) has been selected as an alternate for the event.
The event runs from May 23-28 following the team portion of the NCAA Tournament at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex at the University of Illinois in Champaign, Ill.
This marks the first time since 2014 that Pepperdine will send a men's player to the singles championship. That season, Alex Sarkissian lost in the final. Last season, Guy Den Ouden and Adrian Oetzbach advanced to the semifinals in the doubles championship.
Both programs open up the NCAA Tournament this weekend, as the women face Denver in Malibu at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, while the men are in South Carolina to face Washington on Friday morning at 7:00 a.m PT.
