Pepperdine to Finish Regular Season This Weekend

MALIBU, California – The Pepperdine men's and women's track team will close out the regular season at the Oxy Invitational on Saturday, May 7. The Waves' Karl Winter will also be competing at the Sound Running Track Meet on Friday, May 6.

On Friday, May 6, Winter will compete in the men's 1,500 meters at the Sound Running Track Meet in San Juan Capistrano, Calif., at JSerra High School. The race will begin at 5:47 p.m.

On Saturday, May 7, the rest of the Waves will race at the Oxy Invitational hosted by Occidental College in Los Angeles, Calif. The running events will begin tentatively at 1:00 p.m.

Pepperdine continued to get faster as five Waves ran season bests at the Steve Scott Invitational on Friday, April 29 and Saturday, April 30.

Freshman Megan LaCamera (Burbank, Calif./Burbank HS) highlighted the meet with a first-place finish in her heat in the women's 1,500 meters clocking in at 4:49.74, which also etched her name ninth on the Pepperdine all-time list. Sophomore William Watkins (Mill Valley, Calif./Marin Catholic HS) also had a first-place finish in his heat in the men's 400 meters, finishing in a time of 50.15. Freshman Elias Spence (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg HS) had a second-place finish in the men's 5,000 meters in a time of 15:11.76, which is his season best. Sophomore Nathaniel Lannen (Southlake, Texas/Carroll HS) collected a third-place finish in his heat in the men's 800 meters crossing the finish line at 1:59.60, which is his season best.

Junior Jaad Abduljawad (Jeddah, Saudi Arabia/Cal Coast Academy) marked two season-bests in the men's 100-meter dash and 200 meters. Abduljawad posted a time of 11.11 in the 100 meters, which was good for second place in his heat, and finished the 200 meters in a time of 22.70, which was good for third in his heat. Freshman Matthew Covaci (Riverwoods, Ill.) ran a season best in the men's 400 meters in a time of 58.87.

Freshman Abigail Howard (Jefferson, Ga./Jefferson HS) notched a fourth-place finish in her heat in the women's 100-meter hurdles crossing the line at 17.12. Freshman Lauren Rocco (Port Orange, Fla./Spruce Creek HS) competed in the women's 400-meter hurdles and collected a fifth-place finish in a time of 1:11.83. Junior Olivia Miller (Tallahassee, Fla./Lawton Chiles HS) ran in the women's 800 meters in a time of 2:22.04, which was good for sixth in her heat.
