MALIBU, California – The Pepperdine men's tennis program will be represented in Illinois as the NCAA Singles Championship gets underway on Monday, with #24
Daniel De Jonge being selected for the event.
This is the first time since 2014 that Pepperdine has had a participant in the Singles Championship. In that tournament, Alex Sarkissian advanced to the final. Last season,
Guy Den Ouden and
Adrian Oetzbach advanced to the semifinals in the doubles championship.
De Jonge (Vlissingen, Netherlands) becomes the 78
th Wave to appear in the Singles Championship. Fifty Pepperdine men's players have advanced to the second round. He would need two wins to be named an All-American.
The criteria for ITA All-America honors include earning a top 16 seed into the NCAA Singles Championship, advancing to the round of 16 at the NCAA Championship, or finishing in the top 20 of the final ITA Singles Rankings.
De Jonge will face Georgia Tech's #43 Andres Martin in the opening round at 1:30 p.m. PT.
The event runs Monday, May 23 through Saturday, May 28. Links to live video and live stats are available on the TennisONE app and PepperdineWaves.com.
