Pepperdine Takes PCH Cup Game Two 7-2 Over LMU

LOS ANGELES, California – The Pepperdine baseball team defeated PCH Cup rival Loyola Marymount 7-2 in game two of their West Coast Conference series on Saturday night at Page Stadium.

The Waves (21-24, 9-14) fell behind in the first inning 1-0 to the Lions (18-28, 13-10), but three innings with two or more runs propelled Pepperdine to split the series. Pepperdine shut down LMU for seven straight innings.

The Lions jumped out first early in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI single to left to take a 1-0 lead. In the top of the third inning, Charles Masino (Newbury Park, Calif./Oaks Christian HS) drew a walk with one out. Peck roped a double down the left-field line to advance Masino to third. Bradshaw hit a two-run single to right field to give the Waves the lead for the first time at 3-1.

In the top of the fourth inning, Devon Walczykowski (El Dorado Hills, Calif./Jesuit HS) hit an infield single with one out. With two outs, Masino sent a single to left to advance Walczykowski to second base. With a 2-0 count, Peck went yard out to left center and added to the Pepperdine lead and made it 5-1. Ryan Johnson (Tempe, Ariz./Seton Catholic HS) led off the top of the fifth inning with a walk. Winaker smacked a double down the right-field line that scored Johnson to make it 6-1. The Waves took advantage of a Lions' fielding error to give Pepperdine runners on the corners with no outs. Cole Sheehan (Phoenix, Ariz./Mountain Pointe HS) reached base on a fielder's choice and also brought in the seventh run of the game for the Waves and made it 7-1.

In the bottom of the final frame, the Lions hit a solo home run over the right field wall to make it 7-2. The Waves closed out game two on a high fly ball to right field to collect the win.

- Sophomore infielder John Peck (Moorpark, Calif./Moorpark HS) went 2-for-5 including a three-run home run and a double. Peck had three RBI and crossed the plate twice. Peck also extended his hitting streak to eight games and his reached base streak to 10.
- Sophomore outfielder Connor Bradshaw (New Rochelle, N.Y./Trinity-Pawling HS) went 2-for-4 including a double and had two RBI.
- Redshirt junior Michael Winaker (Walnut Creek, Calif./San Ramon HS) had a double on the night with one RBI and scored one run.
- Junior RHP Trevor Hinkel (Temecula, Calif./Chaparral HS) threw 6.0 innings while giving up five hits and only allowing one run. Hinkel collected his fourth win of the season.
- Freshman RHP Bobby Christy (Odessa, Fla./Sickles HS) tied his career-high strikeouts with two in 3.0 innings.
