Telfer Has Career Day on the Mound in 6-1 Victory Over LMU in Series Finale

LOS ANGELES, California – Shane Telfer threw seven scoreless innings and the Pepperdine baseball team took down Loyola Marymount 6-1 in the West Coast Conference series finale and collected a PCH Cup point on Sunday afternoon at Page Stadium.

The Waves (22-24, 10-14 WCC) jumped out front 2-0 in the bottom of the second and held the Lions (18-29-1, 13-11 WCC) scoreless for eight out of the nine innings played, while only allowing just four hits. Pepperdine tallied 11 hits, including a homer in the top of the third inning.

In the top of the second inning, Devon Walczykowski (El Dorado Hills, Calif./Jesuit HS) led off with a single to center field. The Waves took advantage of a Lions' fielding error to give Pepperdine runners on first and second. Quintt Landis (Westlake Village, Calif./Oaks Christian HS) and Walczykowski advanced into scoring position on a LMU wild pitch. Conley hit a sacrifice fly to center that scored the first run of the game and made it 1-0. Greg Mehlhaff (Gresham, Ore./Clackamas HS) hit an RBI ground ball to the shortstop to extend the Waves' lead at 2-0.

In the top of the third inning, Johnson went yard over the left-center wall to increase the Pepperdine lead at 3-0. After four scoreless innings, Winaker put down a bunt single to give the Waves a runner on first with two outs in the top of the eighth inning. Walczykowski was hit by a pitch that moved Winaker to second. Charles Masino (Newbury Park, Calif./Oaks Christian HS) blooped a double down the left-field line that scored the fourth run of the game for Pepperdine at 4-0. Conley roped his first career triple that scored two runs to increase the Waves' lead to 6-0. In the bottom of the eighth, Dylan Dennis of LMU hit a solo home run to give the Lions their first run of the game at 6-1.

In the bottom of the final inning, the Lions led off with a walk, but the Waves then sat down LMU on a fly out to center and a double play to end the game and hold onto the win.

- Junior LHP Shane Telfer (San Diego, Calif./Cathedral Catholic HS) threw a career-high 7.0 innings and had a career-high 10 strikeouts, while only allowing two hits. Telfer improved to 2-1 on the season.
- Junior catcher Ryan Johnson (Tempe, Ariz./Seton Catholic HS) went 2-for-5 on the day including his 10th home run of the season and collected his 100th career hit with the solo blast.
- Redshirt junior Michael Winaker (Walnut Creek, Calif./San Ramon HS) went 2-for-4, which ties his career-high in hits with two. Winaker crossed the plate once.
- Freshman infielder Cam Conley (Lincoln University, Pa./Malvern Prep) went 2-for-3 with three RBI, which ties his career-high in RBI. Conley hit the only triple of the game, which was the first of his career.
- Sophomore infielder Nolan Lingley (Tracy, Calif./Ripon Christian School) also had two hits.
- Sophomore infielder John Peck (Moorpark, Calif./Moorpark HS) had one hit on the day and extended his hitting streak to nine games and his reached base streak to 11 games.
