PORTLAND, Ore. – The #6 Pepperdine women's tennis program only dropped 21 games total and won six straight-set matches in singles en route to a 7-0 sweep of Portland on Saturday at the Louisiana Pacific Tennis Center.
Pepperdine (17-4, 6-0 WCC) moves to 16-0 all-time over the Pilots (6-11, 1-5 WCC).
Pepperdine needed less than 30 minutes to secure the doubles point, as the Waves surrendered only three games total over three courts to Portland. From the top line, Taisiya Pachkaleva (Moscow, Russia) and Lisa Zaar (Stockholm, Sweden) claimed a 6-0 win to begin the morning. Shortly after, Savannah Broadus (Carrollton, Texas) and Shiori Fukuda (Tokyo, Japan) earned their third win of the week with a 6-1 win on court two, giving the Waves a 1-0 lead heading into singles.
The singles portion was completed in two flights of three. #11 Fukuda collected a 6-2, 6-1 win on court one over #108 Iva Zelic to open up singles and create a two-match advantage for the Waves. Also in the first flight, #47 Pachkaleva earned a straight-set win – 6-1, 6-4 – over Rimona Rouf on court three. Pepperdine clinched the match for Pepperdine in the first flight after #23 Zaar defeated Sally Pethybridge on court two, 6-2, 6-4.
Courts four, five and six played the match out to completion in the second flight. #86 Broadus took the first match, blowing past Aleksandra Dimitrijevic on court four, 6-0, 6-1. #54 Victoria Flores (Fort Dodge, Iowa) continued the impressive afternoon for Pepperdine, dropping only one game as Broadus did to defeat Angela Schuster on court five, 6-1, 6-0. #97 Nikki Redelijk (Windermere, Fla.) completed the sweep with a 6-2, 6-0 court six victory.
