SPOKANE, Wash. – The #6 Pepperdine women's tennis program earned its 22nd consecutive win against Gonzaga with a 4-0 sweep of the Bulldogs on Friday afternoon at the Stevens Center.
Pepperdine (16-4, 5-0 WCC) opened the afternoon with a quick doubles win on court two, as Savannah Broadus (Carrollton, Texas) and Shiori Fukuda (Tokyo, Japan) handled their opponents, 6-2. The Waves were close to a clinch on both courts one and three, but the duo on the top line of Taisiya Pachkaleva (Moscow, Russia) and Lisa Zaar (Stockholm, Sweden) got to the finish line first, winning 6-3 to open up a 1-0 lead.
Pepperdine took five first sets from Gonzaga (7-11, 1-4 WCC) to set the tone for the match. #11 Fukuda was the first Waves' winner on the day, turning in a 6-3, 6-1 decision on the main court. #97 Nikki Redelijk (Windermere, Fla.) followed suit soon after with a 6-2, 6-2 victory on court six to grow Pepperdine's lead to 3-0. To complete the win and the sweep, #86 Broadus breezed past her opponent on court four, winning 6-1, 6-4.
