Women's Tennis Rolls San Francisco, Advances To WCC Title Match

OJAI, Calif. – The #8 Pepperdine women's tennis program advanced to yet another West Coast Conference Tournament championship match after shutting out San Francisco 4-0 on Friday morning at the Weil Tennis Academy.

Since the current tournament format was instituted in 1995, the Waves (19-6) have yet to miss a championship match.

Pepperdine wasted no time setting the tone in doubles, as the Waves only dropped three games total to the Dons (12-11). Court three's pair of Shiori Fukuda (Tokyo, Japan) and Taisiya Pachkaleva (Moscow, Russia) won 6-1 to begin the morning. Shortly after, the 34th-ranked duo of Savannah Broadus (Carrollton, Texas) and Janice Tjen (Jakarta, Indonesia) also were 6-1 victors, clinching the doubles point for the Waves. Court one, where Pepperdine held a commanding lead and was on the verge of a clinch, was abandoned.

In singles, Pepperdine won all six first sets, but before all were completed, two matches were already wrapped up as #97 Broadus was a 6-0, 6-0 winner on court five over Mya Bui and court three also went to the Waves thanks to a 6-0, 6-1 win by #39 Pachkaleva over Caragh Courtney. With one more win needed for a match victory, #91 Tjen cruised to a triumph on court two, defeating Chiho Mushika 6-3, 6-1 to send Pepperdine to Saturday afternoon's WCC Championship.
