Men's Golf Takes Lead Into Final Round at WCC Championships

HENDERSON, Nevada – William Mouw's 5-under 67 has helped the Pepperdine men's golf team take a three-shot lead after Friday's second round at the West Coast Conference Championships.

The Waves began the day tied for first and they now will head into the final round with a narrow lead and a score of a 3-under 573 (288-285) at the par-72 Reflection Bay Golf Club. Pepperdine leads by three over BYU and San Francisco and four over Loyola Marymount.

The Waves are attempting to win their fourth consecutive WCC title and their league-best 22nd overall.

The Waves will be in the last group to tee off during Saturday's third and final round. They'll be paired with San Francisco and BYU and they'll get started on the first tee at 8:40 a.m.

- Junior William Mouw (Chino, Calif./Ontario Christian HS) moved up 20 spots on the leaderboard and into a tie for second place with a 3-under 141 (74-67). After an early bogey on 4, he birdied 7 to get back to par. On the back nine, he birdied 11, 12, 14, 16 and 18 to give him six on the day. He'll begin the final round two shots back of the leader.
- Senior Joey Vrzich (El Cajon, Calif./Christian HS/Nevada) is tied for eighth with a 1-under 143 (71-72). During his even-par round today, he immediately followed up each of his three bogeys with a birdie.
- Senior Derek Hitchner (Minneapolis, Minn./The Blake School) is tied for 13th at 145 (71-74). He had two birdies on Friday.
- Junior Dylan Menante (Carlsbad, Calif./Sage Creek HS) is tied for 15th at 146 (74-72). He had three birdies during his even-par round.
- Senior Joe Highsmith (Lakewood, Wash./Bellarmine Prep) is tied for 19th at 147 (72-75). He had two birdies in the second round.
