STILLWATER, Okla. – The #5 Pepperdine women's tennis program ran out of gas on Saturday afternoon, falling to #12 Oklahoma State 4-3 at the Greenwood Tennis Center.
In doubles, the 14th-ranked pair of Miyamoto/Rioux for Oklahoma State (17-4) won 6-1 on court one to begin doubles play. #54 Savannah Broadus (Carrollton, Texas) and Shiori Fukuda (Tokyo, Japan) continued their unbeaten spring with a 6-2 win on court two over #52 Sawangkaew and Zerulo, forcing court three to decide the doubles point. OSU claimed a deciding 6-3 victory to take an early lead with singles play on the horizon.
Pepperdine (17-5) took four first sets in singles, and #46 Taisiya Pachkaleva (Moscow, Russia) was the first winner of the day with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Oona Orpana on court three. The Waves kept the pressure on as #84 Broadus gave Pepperdine a 2-1 lead after defeating Sofia Rojas 6-2, 6-2 on court five. #103 Janice Tjen (Jakarta, Indonesia) followed suit with the third straight-set triumph of the afternoon, taking down Ayumi Miyamoto 6-3, 6-4 on court four.
With three courts remaining, the Cowgirls took the ranked matchup on the main court 7-5, 6-1 to cut their deficit in half. Oklahoma State followed that up with a three-set win (6-3, 1-6, 6-2) on court two between ranked foes. The Cowgirls completed the comeback with a win on court six in the third set tiebreak, 5-7, 6-4, 7-6 (4).
