Pepperdine Falls to San Francisco in Rubber Match

MALIBU, California – The Pepperdine baseball team fell 6-3 to San Francisco in game three of their West Coast Conference series on Saturday afternoon at Eddy D. Field Stadium.
 
The Dons (19-20, 8-7) clinched the series 2-1 over the Waves (18-16, 7-8).
 
BIG WAVES
 
  • Sophomore outfielder Connor Bradshaw (New Rochelle, N.Y./Trinity-Pawling HS) went 2-for-4 with one run scored.
  • Sophomore outfielder Charles Masino (Newbury Park, Calif./Oaks Christian HS) smacked a two-run home run, which is the second of his career. Masino extended his hitting streak to 15 games and increased his on-base streak to 17 games.
  • Junior outfielder Grant Schoen (San Diego, Calif./Cathedral Catholic HS) had one hit on the day and one RBI.
 
GAME RECAP
 
The Dons took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning on two hits. It stayed that way until the bottom of the seventh inning, when Bradshaw singled to right field with one out and then stole second base. With two outs, Schoen roped a single up the middle that scored Bradshaw to cut the lead in half at 2-1.
 
In the top of the eighth inning, the Dons reached base on a Waves' error that scored two runs and made it 4-1. San Francisco grounded out to the pitcher that moved two base runners into scoring position on second and third. The Dons roped a single to the grass line at third base and scored the fifth run of the game to increase the lead to 5-1.
 
In the bottom of the eighth inning, with one out, Jacob Rebrook (The Woodlands, Texas/The John Cooper School) hit a single through the right side. With two outs and a full count, Masino sent one over the scoreboard to get the Waves within two at 5-3. In the top of the final inning, the Dons doubled to left center with one out. San Francisco got into a pickle with the Waves on a fielder's choice ground ball and collected the second out with a runner on second. Brandon Greim of San Francisco hit a single to right center that scored the insurance run for the Dons and made it 6-3.
 
San Francisco retired Pepperdine in order in the bottom of the ninth to collect the win.
 
UP NEXT
 
The Waves will have one more game at home on Tuesday, April 19. hosting CSU Bakersfield for a non-conference matchup, before hitting the road for a WCC weekend series in Santa Clara. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. and the game will be streamed on the WCC Network.
