MALIBU, Calif. – The #5 Pepperdine women's tennis program defended home court in a big way on Saturday afternoon, rolling past PCH Cup rival and #21 Loyola Marymount 4-0 at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center.
This was the 24th-consecutive home win for Pepperdine (12-3, 2-0 WCC) over LMU (9-2, 0-1 WCC).
Both teams were even early in doubles, but it was Pepperdine who earned the first win as the 17th-ranked pair of Victoria Flores (Fort Dodge, Iowa) and Lisa Zaar (Stockholm, Sweden) were 6-2 victors on court one. With LMU leading on court two, the court three duo of Anastasia Iamachkine (Lima, Peru) and Taisiya Pachkaleva (Moscow, Russia) took matters into their own hands and won 6-4, clinching the doubles point for Pepperdine.
Before all six first sets in singles were complete, the Waves grabbed the upper hand there as well, as #79 Janice Tjen (Jakarta, Indonesia) was a 6-1, 6-1 winner on court three over Wiktoria Rutkowska. #17 Zaar was next, taking care of Eva Marie Voracek 6-2, 6-3 to give the Waves a 3-0 lead. With one more win needed for the clinch, #98 Nikki Redelijk (Windermere, Fla.) secured a 7-6 (5), 6-2 win on court six for another Pepperdine victory against a ranked opponent.
