Pepperdine Collects Series Win in Game Two Against Pacific

MALIBU, California – The Pepperdine baseball team clinched its West Coast Conference series against Pacific with a 5-3 game two win on Saturday afternoon at Eddy D. Field Stadium.

Trevor Hinkel and the Waves (13-8, 3-2) shut down the Tigers (7-14, 0-5) through seven innings. Pepperdine took an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the third and never let up.

In the bottom of the third inning, Nolan Lingley (Tracy, Calif./Ripon Christian School) drew a walk and Cam Conley (Lincoln University, Pa./Malvern Prep) singled through the left side to advance Lingley to second. Charles Masino (Newbury Park, Calif./Oaks Christian HS) put down a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners into scoring position for the first out. Peck hit a line drive over the shortstop to give the Waves an early 1-0 lead with one out. Malinchak hit a rocket towards the shortstop for an infield single that drove in another run for Pepperdine to make it 2-0. Connor Bradshaw (New Rochelle, N.Y./Trinity-Pawling HS) had an infield hit that went towards the middle that scored the third run for the Waves.

The Waves added another run in the bottom of the sixth inning on a Lingley single to the outfield to increase the lead at 4-0. In the bottom of the seventh inning, with two outs, Malinchak singled to left center and Bradshaw followed with a single up the middle to advance Malinchak to second. On a 0-2 count, Landis roped a double to right center that scored Malinchak to go up 5-0.

In the top of the eighth inning, Pacific singled down the right-field line to get its first run of the day and make it 5-1. Pacific added two more runs in the top of the ninth inning to make it 5-3, before Grant Georges (Flower Mound, Texas/Flower Mound HS) collected the final three outs, including a game-ending strikeout with the tying run in scoring position for his sixth save of the season.

- Junior RHP Trevor Hinkel (Temecula, Calif./Chaparral HS) threw a career-high 7.0 innings while only giving up three hits. Hinkel also tied his career-high in strikeouts with seven.
- Sophomore infield John Peck (Moorpark, Calif./Moorpark HS) went 2-for-4 with one RBI and scored a run.
- Graduate student outfielder Mike Malinchak (Delray Beach, Fla./American Heritage HS) had two hits on the day with one RBI and crossed the plate once.
- Junior outfielder Quintt Landis (Westlake Village, Calif./Oaks Christian HS) had the Waves' only double of the day.
