Fast Start Leads #6 Waves Past Princeton

MALIBU, Calif. – The sixth-ranked Pepperdine women's tennis program defended home court once again on Thursday afternoon, breezing by Princeton 6-1 at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center.

Pepperdine (8-3) wasted no time getting the doubles point, as Anastasia Iamachkine (Lima, Peru) and Taisiya Pachkaleva (Moscow, Russia) took the 6-2 win playing on court two for the first time this dual season. Courts one and three were both 5-4 in favor of the Waves, and Nikki Redelijk (Windermere, Fla.) and Janice Tjen (Jakarta, Indonesia) pulled away for a 6-4 win on court three to claim a 1-0 lead heading into singles.

The Waves kept the momentum in singles, winning six first sets against the Tigers (4-9). The first winner of the day came on court six, as Iamachkine was a 6-1, 6-3 winner over Michelle Sorokko. Shortly after, #88 Tjen cruised to a 6-4, 6-1 victory on court three over Stephanie Schrage to give the Waves a commanding 3-0 lead.

Princeton clawed back with a three-set win on court one after the Tigers dropped the first set 6-0, trimming the match score to 3-1. However, #98 Redelijk clinched the match win for Pepperdine with a resounding 6-4, 6-0 win on court five over Maia Sung.
