Men's Golf Has Big Second Round in Hawai'i

WAIMEA, Hawai'i – Big rounds by William Mouw and Dylan Menante helped the Pepperdine men's golf team to the second-best round of the day at the Amer Ari Invitational on Friday.

The Waves moved up to fourth place and now have a two-day total of a 28-under 548 (278-270). Four of the five Waves went below-par as part of today's 18-under, including a 7-under 65 by Mouw and a 6-under 66 by Menante.

The 18-under tied the third-best round in program history, and the 28-under tied the fifth-best 36-hole score in school history.

Pepperdine will begin the final round eight shots back of Texas Tech (the Red Raiders had the only score better than the Waves today at 21-under), seven behind Arizona State and two away from Washington.

- Junior Dylan Menante (Carlsbad, Calif./Sage Creek HS) is tied for third with a 10-under 134 (68-66). His score of 6-under was a season-best. He had an eagle on the par-5 third hole, then ran off four straight birdies on holes five through eight. He added two more on the back nine for a total of six on the day.
- Junior William Mouw (Chino, Calif./Ontario Christian HS) is tied for eighth with a 9-under 135 (70-65). His 7-under today was a season-best. He had a total of nine birdies today, including a run of six straight on holes 10-15.
- Senior Joey Vrzich (El Cajon, Calif./Christian HS/Nevada) is tied for 15th with a 7-under 137 (69-68). His 4-under on Friday included five birdies.
- Senior Derek Hitchner (Minneapolis, Minn./The Blake School) is tied for 60th with an even-par 144 (71-73). He had an eagle on the par-5 third hole and two birdies today.
- Senior Joe Highsmith (Lakewood, Wash./Bellarmine Prep) is tied for 69th at 145 (74-71). His 1-under today included five birdies, four of which came in his first seven holes.
- Playing as an individual, freshman Ian Maspat (San Diego, Calif./Scripps Ranch HS) is tied for 94th at 149 (74-75). He had an eagle on the par-5 14th hole and one birdie.
