COLUMBUS, Ohio – The #8 Pepperdine women's tennis team, playing its sixth ranked opponent in a row, won the doubles point but ran out of gas in singles, falling to #4 Ohio State 5-2 on Sunday afternoon at the Ty Tucker Tennis Center.
 
Pepperdine (6-3) got it going in doubles from the three spot, where Shiori Fukuda (Tokyo, Japan) and Taisiya Pachkaleva (Moscow, Russia) were 6-3 winners over Dormet/Marzal. The other two doubles matchups up for grabs went to 5-5, and Ohio State (6-3) took the ranked matchup on court one, 7-5. The doubles point came down to a tiebreaker on court two, and the 15^th ranked pair of Savannah Broadus (Carrollton, Texas) and Janice Tjen (Jakarta, Indonesia) remained perfect on the dual season with a 7-6 (3) win to grab the lead heading into singles play.
 
The Buckeyes stormed back into the match early in singles, winning five first sets. OSU took advantage, taking courts four, two and one in straight sets to claim a 3-1 lead in the match.
 
Down 3-1, the Waves needed a rally and courts three, five and six all were pushed to third sets. Unfortunately, Ohio State won a ranked matchup on court three to clinch the win.
 
Once the match was decided, courts five and six finished to completion. Pepperdine fell on court six, but #45 Victoria Flores (Fort Dodge, Iowa) claimed the lone singles win for Pepperdine with a ranked win, defeating #116 Lucia Marzal 5-7, 7-5, 6-3.
