#8 Waves Win Ranked Road Matchup

ANN ARBOR, Michigan – The #8 Pepperdine women's tennis team, in its first true road match of the season, won another top-25 match after defeating #16 Michigan 4-3 at the Varsity Tennis Center on Friday night.
Pepperdine (6-2) took advantage early in doubles, as Shiori Fukuda (Tokyo, Japan) and Taisiya Pachkaleva (Moscow, Russia) were quick winners on court three, 6-2. Almost simultaneously, the Waves clinched the doubles point thanks to a 6-2 win on court two by Savannah Broadus (Carrollton, Texas) and Janice Tjen (Jakarta, Indonesia). Court one was abandoned at 4-4.
Broadus, ranked #117 nationally, was a winner on court six to begin singles, blowing by Gala Mesochoritou 6-0, 6-0 to give Pepperdine a 2-0 lead. Fukuda took down #8 Kari Miller 6-2, 6-1 on court one to give the Waves a commanding 3-0 lead with four courts remaining.
After the Wolverines (5-3) claimed victory on courts two and three, Pepperdine held a 3-2 lead with courts four and five remaining. It was a race to the finish, and 88th ranked Tjen clinched the match for the Waves, winning 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 over Julia Fliegner.
Court four finished its third set to completion, where Michigan won 6-7, 6-3, 6-3.
