
Maspat Wins Prestige Individual Tournament Title

LA QUINTA, California – Freshman Ian Maspat of the Pepperdine men's golf team earned his first college win at The Prestige's individual tournament on Wednesday, while the rest of the Waves came in a tie for 13th place at the main competition.

Pepperdine finished with a three-day total of 899 (305-300-294) at the par-71 Greg Norman Course at PGA West.

Facing off against 61 other competitors at the par-72 Coral Mountain Golf Club, Maspat (San Diego, Calif./Scripps Ranch HS) finished with a 6-under 210 (68-74-68) to win by five strokes. He began the day with a two-shot lead, and his second 4-under of the tournament helped increase his margin. Maspat had seven birdies on the day, with four on the front nine, and then had two in his final three holes. He had a total of 15 birdies for the tournament, tied for the most in the field. This was his third college tournament.

Pepperdine gets back into action quickly, as the Waves will take part in the Southern Highlands Collegiate in Las Vegas from Sunday through Tuesday (Feb. 27-March 1).

- Senior Joey Vrzich (El Cajon, Calif./Christian HS/Nevada) tied for 45th at 226 (77-77-72). He had four birdies today.
- Junior William Mouw (Chino, Calif./Ontario Christian HS) tied for 59th at 228 (76-77-75). He also posted four birdies in the final round.
- Senior Derek Hitchner (Minneapolis, Minn./The Blake School) tied for 68th at 229 (80-73-76). He had one birdie today.
- Senior Joe Highsmith (Lakewood, Wash./Bellarmine Prep) tied for 98th at 235 (78-83-74). His round ended with three consecutive birdies.
