Waves Through Two Rounds at The Prestige

LA QUINTA, California – Ian Maspat of the Pepperdine men's golf team continues to lead at a separate tournament for individual players, while the rest of the Waves began moving up the leaderboard at The Prestige on Tuesday.

Only half of the 24 teams completed the second round before darkness set in. Pepperdine was in the morning wave and is one the teams that finished. The Waves have moved up six spots and currently stand in 16th place with a two-day total of 605 (305-300) at the par-71 Greg Norman Course at PGA West.

On another windy day, the Waves had the second-lowest score of the day among the 12 teams that finished. Their place on the leaderboard is likely to improve as teams finish the second round on Wednesday morning.

The other 12 teams will finish the second round beginning at 8 a.m. on Wednesday. The third and final round will begin at 11 a.m. via a shotgun start. Maspat will tee off at his tournament at 10:50 a.m.

- In a separate event being held at the par-72 Coral Mountain Golf Club, freshman Ian Maspat (San Diego, Calif./Scripps Ranch HS) has opened up a two-shot lead with a 2-under 142 (68-74). His second round included four birdies. He leads Kansas' Ben Sigel by two and Princeton's Jackson Fretty by three.
- At the primary tournament, junior Dylan Menante (Carlsbad, Calif./Sage Creek HS) is tied for 15th at 147 (74-73). His round on Tuesday included four birdies, including each of his first two holes.
- Senior Derek Hitchner (Minneapolis, Minn./The Blake School) is tied for 61st at 153 (80-73). He posted three birdies today, all of which came in his first six holes.
- Junior William Mouw (Chino, Calif./Ontario Christian HS) is also tied for 61st at 153 (76-77). He birdied his first two holes on Tuesday.
- Senior Joey Vrzich (El Cajon, Calif./Christian HS/Nevada) is tied for 73rd at 154 (77-77). He birdied two of the first three holes.
- Senior Joe Highsmith (Lakewood, Wash./Bellarmine Prep) is tied for 113th at 161 (78-83).
