LA QUINTA, California – Ian Maspat of the Pepperdine men's golf team took the first-round lead at a separate tournament for individual players, but the rest of the Waves didn't have the best of starts at The Prestige on Monday.

Pepperdine is 22nd after an opening 305 played in extremely windy conditions at the par-71 Greg Norman Course at PGA West.

PLAYER SCORES

In a separate event being held at the par-72 Coral Mountain Golf Club, freshman Ian Maspat (San Diego, Calif./Scripps Ranch HS) is one of three players who shot a 4-under 68 to take the first-round lead. There are 62 players in the field. His round was flawless with four birdies, three of which came on the front nine. His day ended with eight straight pars.
At the primary tournament, junior Dylan Menante (Carlsbad, Calif./Sage Creek HS) is tied for 32nd after a 74. He had three birdies on the day.
Junior William Mouw (Chino, Calif./Ontario Christian HS) is tied for 65th after a 76. He had one birdie on Monday.
Senior Joey Vrzich (El Cajon, Calif./Christian HS/Nevada) is tied for 81st after a 77. He had two birdies today.
Senior Joe Highsmith (Lakewood, Wash./Bellarmine Prep) is tied for 91st after a 78. He had an eagle on the par-5 12th hole and one birdie.
Senior Derek Hitchner (Minneapolis, Minn./The Blake School) is tied for 106th after an 80. He had two birdies.

UP NEXT

The tournament continues with round two on Tuesday and the third and final round on Wednesday.
