FULLERTON, Calif. – The Pepperdine women's basketball team fell 64-55 to Cal State Fullerton in a road contest on Monday night.
The Waves (2-4) outshot the Titans (3-2) 48.0% to 35.9%, though the opposition scored 21 points off of turnovers. Pepperdine outscored Cal State Fullerton in the fourth quarter 17-10.
BIG WAVES
- Graduate forward Theresa Grace Mbanefo (Otsego, Minn./Blaine HS/Cornell) led the Waves with 15 points, shooting 70% from the field (7-of-10) and nabbing five rebounds.
- Sophomore guard Ally Stedman (Phoenix, Ariz./Pinnacle HS) had yet another double-digit outpouring, scoring 11 points. She also dished out six assists and had two rebounds.
- Sophomore forward Meaali'i Amosa (Garden Grove, Calif./Mater Dei HS) had seven points and six rebounds.
- Graduate point guard Marly Walls (Bardstown, Ky./Nelson County/Bucknell) only scored two points for the Waves, but nabbed eight rebounds for a team high in that category.
GAME RECAP
The Titans started the game with five straight points, but the Waves countered with six straight points at 6-5. Cal State Fullerton and Pepperdine went back and forth and exchanged the lead four different times in the first quarter. Though the score was tied three times, the Titans had the advantage and rounded out the quarter with a made three-pointer to make the score 16-13.
Drea Brumfield (Chehalis, Wash./W.F. West HS) collected the first basket of the second quarter and had the Waves within one at 16-15. Back-to-back buckets for the Titans increased the lead to 20-15, but Pepperdine cut the deficit to three at 20-17 thanks to a made jumper from Mbanefo. Cal State Fullerton extended the lead to as much as six in the second quarter at 27-21. Walls went end-to-end to make a layup to get the Waves back within four at 27-23. The Titans added two more to the lead on free throws to head into the half up by six, 29-23.
Following the break, the Titans sank a basket and made it 31-23, but Amosa floated a layup into the net to cut the deficit back to six at 31-25. Cal State Fullerton and Pepperdine exchanged baskets throughout the quarter, but the Titans had a 54-38 advantage heading into the final frame.
The Waves scored the first basket of the fourth quarter, but five consecutive points for the Titans increased the lead to 59-40. Mbanefo tacked on two layups to make the score 59-44. Pepperdine and Cal State Fullerton each tallied baskets before Stedman made a layup to cut the deficit to nine at 64-55. The Titans called a timeout in the final minute and held onto the ball to secure the victory.

- The Waves outshot the Titans in field goal percentage, going for 48% in contrast to CSUF's 35.9%.
- The Titans forced 21 turnovers compared to the Waves' six.
- Fullerton got to the free throw line twice as many times (15) as Pepperdine (7).
