Waves Defeat PCH Cup Rival LMU 2-0

MALIBU, Calif.  –  Carlee Giammona and Shelby Little found the back of the net late in the second half as the Pepperdine women's soccer team defeated PCH Cup rival Loyola Marymount 2-0 on Saturday afternoon at Tari Frahm Rokus Field.

The Waves (9-3-4, 3-2-2 WCC) dominated the entire game and held the Lions (3-6-6, 1-6-0 WCC) to only three shots and none on target. LMU did only hold Pepperdine to four shots in the first 45 minutes and kept the scoresheet clean until the 73rd minute. Harlee Head collected the second solo shutout of her career.

GOALS

Pepperdine 73': The Waves earned a corner kick on the left side of the field. Junior midfielder Skylar Enge (Cardiff, Calif./Pacific Ridge School) took the corner kick and sent a ball towards the middle of the box. The LMU keeper attempted to punch out the ball, but senior midfielder Carlee Giammona (Las Vegas, Nev./Palo Verde HS/Alabama) jumped over a Lions' defender and bodied the ball into the back of the net. This was Giammona's ninth goal of the season, which is a team high.

Pepperdine 90': Senior defender Trinity Watson (Ocean Beach, Calif./Point Loma HS) had a rocket shot on goal that was saved by LMU's Sadie Kenny. Watson went to the left-side of the field to track down the rebound and then sent a cross to midfielder Shelby Little (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Hillcrest Christian HS) in the middle of the box. Five seconds before the final whistle, Little let a right-footed shot go from inside the box that found its way to the bottom left corner in the back of the net. This was Little's third goal of the season.
