ALPHARETTA, Georgia – The Pepperdine men's golf team is within striking distance of its second consecutive victory at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate, as the Waves wrapped up Saturday's second round in third place but just four shots out of first.
The Waves have a two-day total of a 17-under 559 (279-280) at the par-72 Golf Club of Georgia. Host Georgia Tech (555) is the leader and Tennessee (558) is second.
The Waves won this tournament last year with a score of 42-under. This year's event includes seven top-25 teams from the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings, while 11 of the 13 teams are in the top 50.
PLAYER SCORES
- Senior William Mouw (Chino, Calif./Ontario Christian HS) is tied for third place with a 7-under 137 (68-69). His 3-under round included six birdies, four of them on the front nine. He'll start the final round three shots out of first.
- Graduate Sam Choi (Anaheim, Calif./New Mexico) is tied for fifth with a 6-under 138 (68-70). He birdied three of the first five holes to briefly take at least a share of the lead, and finished his round with five birdies.
- Graduate Derek Hitchner (Minneapolis, Minn./The Blake School) is tied for 17th place with a 4-under 140 (72-68). He had a flawless 4-under on Saturday, with zero bogeys and birdies on 7, 8, 14 and 17. He moved up 17 places on the leaderboard.
- Graduate Luke Gifford (Boca Raton, Fla./South Florida) is tied for 33rd with an even-par 144 (71-73). He had three birdies in the second round.
- Competing as an individual, graduate Roberto Nieves (Miami, Fla./Delaware) is tied for 71st at 156 (74-82). He had three birdies today.
- Sophomore Ian Maspat (San Diego, Calif./Scripps Ranch HS) is 74th at 158 (81-77). He had four birdies on Saturday.

Pepperdine will be paired with Georgia Tech and Tennessee for Sunday's third and final round. They'll start on the first tee beginning at 10:50 a.m. ET.
