#17 Waves Open WCC Play With 3-0 Shutout Over San Diego

MALIBU, Calif. – Shelby Little, Tatum Wynalda, and Melina Livadas found the back of the net in the second half as the #17 Pepperdine women's soccer team blanked San Diego 3-0 on Saturday afternoon at Tari Frahm Rokus Field in the opening weekend of West Coast Conference play.

The Waves (1-0 WCC, 7-1-2) dominated the full game and only held the Toreros (0-1 WCC, 2-6-3) to two shots in the first half and none in the second half. Pepperdine tacked together 31 total shots with 10 on goal. Ellie Sommers collected her fifth solo shutout of the season.

GOALS

Pepperdine 54': Senior defender Trinity Watson (Ocean Beach, Calif./Point Loma HS) took a Waves' corner kick. Watson sent the ball from the left corner to senior midfielder Shelby Little's (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Hillcrest Christian HS) right foot. Little tapped the ball out of the air that went past the Toreros' keeper. This was Little's first goal of the season.

Pepperdine 70': Watson took another Pepperdine corner kick and off the set-piece pass, the ball bounced off the shoulder of a San Diego defender and hit the left post. As the ball bounced off the post, it fell right at the foot of freshman forward Tatum Wynalda (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Westlake HS). Wynalda tapped the ball with the outside of her right foot and found the back of the net. This was Wynalda's fifth goal of the season.

Pepperdine 87': The Toreros tried to get a pass back to one of their defenders, but sophomore forward Kelsey Adams (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach Poly HS) intercepted the ball and sent a left-footed tap to sophomore midfielder Caroline Coleman (Mission Hills, Kan./Shawnee Mission East HS). Coleman sent a one-timed pass to freshman forward Melina Livadas (Mission Viejo, Calif./Capistrano Valley HS). Livadas got the ball with her left foot and then from about 20 yards out sent a right-footed rocket into the back of the net. This was Livadas' third goal of the season.
