SPOKANE, Wash. –The #22 Pepperdine women's soccer team earned an 1-1 tie against West Coast Conference foe Gonzaga on Wednesday night at Luger Field.
The Waves (7-1-3, 1-0-1 WCC) fell behind after the Bulldogs (6-2-3, 1-0-1 WCC) scored first in the first half, but Pepperdine's
Leyla McFarland was able to score the equalizer a little over 10 minutes later. McFarland appeared to have added a second goal in the 74th-minute but was ruled offside.
GOALS
Gonzaga 12': Erin Healy of Gonzaga took a shot from the left side of the box. The Waves' keeper saved the shot, but on the unfortunate rebound, it landed right at the foot of Healy again and then found its way into the back of the net.
Pepperdine 24': Senior defender
Trinity Watson (Ocean Beach, Calif./Point Loma HS) sent a perfect pass off of a Waves' corner kick right to senior midfielder
Leyla McFarland (Bonita, Calif./Eastlake HS). McFarland jumped up past the Bulldogs' defender and headed the ball right down, which then bounced past the Gonzaga keeper. This was McFarland's fifth goal of the season.

QUOTABLE
Head coach
Tim Ward said:"A tough game against a very strong opponent! Super proud of the ladies for the way we responded to going down a goal. We played really well at moments in a very tough environment and I think many teams in the WCC will find it hard to get points at Luger Field. So in the end, I actually think the point we got tonight will be a valuable one at the end of WCC play."
UP NEXT
The Waves will continue on the road and visit #15 Portland on Saturday, Oct. 8. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will be live on the WCC Network.
