MALIBU, California – The Pepperdine women's tennis team, fresh off a trip to the national championship match last spring, will start the 2022 dual season ranked #2 in the country as the ITA preseason Top 25 coaches' poll was released on Wednesday morning. The Waves received three of the 12 first-place votes.
This is the sixth season in a row that the Waves have been ranked in the top 10 prior to the start of the dual season. Last spring, Pepperdine occupied the #5 spot before finishing as the nation's runner-up.
In the most recent edition of the ITA player rankings, Pepperdine saw six players represented in singles: junior
Lisa Zaar (#10), sophomore
Taisiya Pachkaleva (#18), graduate student
Victoria Flores (#30), graduate student
Shiori Fukuda (#31), freshman
Savannah Broadus (#36) and sophomore
Janice Tjen (#93). In doubles, the pairs of Flores/Zaar and Flores/Tjen were ranked 11
th and 17
th, respectively.
The Waves begin the season on Saturday, January 22 with a top-10 home match against #9 California at 12:00 p.m. Pepperdine will host the ITA Kick-Off Weekend on January 29-30, welcoming Columbia, Colorado and Notre Dame to Malibu, with the winner of the four-team tournament advancing to the ITA DI National Women's Team Indoor Championship in Madison, Wisconsin, from February 11-14.
