MALIBU, California – The #7 Pepperdine women's tennis program opened the ITA Kick-Off Weekend in impressive fashion on Saturday afternoon, defeating Columbia 4-0 in the first-ever meeting between the schools.
Pepperdine (1-1) made quick work of doubles, as
Savannah Broadus (Carrollton, Texas) and
Janice Tjen (Jakarta, Indonesia) took court two, 6-1. It was a race to finish first on courts one and three, as the court three tandem of
Shiori Fukuda (Tokyo, Japan) and
Anastasia Iamachkine (Lima, Peru) handled Columbia (2-1) by a score of 6-3, leaving court one unfinished.
In singles, Fukuda and
Lisa Zaar (Stockholm, Sweden) took care of business in short order, winning 6-1, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-1, respectively. With a 3-0 lead in the match, Iamachkine claimed her first dual singles win of the season in straight sets to give Pepperdine the victory.
