#22 Men's Tennis Opens 2022 Campaign With Two Ranked Foes

MALIBU, California – The #22 Pepperdine men's tennis program, coming off its first WCC title since 2013 and a trip to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, begins 2022 with two ranked matchups against the Pac-12 and the Waves' first home match with fans in two years.

Match 1: #22 Pepperdine vs #16 Stanford | Friday, January 22 | 2 p.m. PT | Taube Family Tennis Center | Palo Alto, Calif.

Match 2: #22 Pepperdine vs #14 Arizona (1-0, plays #5 Texas on Friday) | Sunday, January 24 | 2 p.m. PT | Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center | Malibu, Calif.

SERIES HISTORY: Pepperdine is 9-26 all-time against Stanford, including a 4-21 road record. The teams last met in 2013 with Pepperdine winning 4-3 in Palo Alto. The Waves have fared well historically against Arizona, sporting a 6-2 record. The Wildcats defeated Pepperdine in 2021 by a score of 5-2 in Tucson.

SCOUTING THE WAVES
#8 Daniel De Jonge (Vlissingen, Netherlands) went 12-3 in singles this fall while reaching the round of 32 at the ITA All-American Championships. He teamed up with Linus Carlsson Halldin (Stockholm, Sweden) to win the doubles title at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic. De Jonge was named the ITA Regional Rookie of the Year in 2020 while going undefeated in dual doubles with partner Adrian Oetzbach. He also went 6-2 from the #1 singles position.

#15 Andrew Rogers (Brentwood, Tennessee) claimed the singles title at the ITA Southwest Regional and advanced to the round of 16 at the ITA Fall Nationals as well. Rogers, a Tennessee graduate transfer, begins his time at Malibu after amassing an overall singles record of 52-23 at Tennessee while going 50-36 in doubles.

#24 Pietro Fellin (Milan, Italy) broke out in a big way this fall, going 14-4 in singles and reaching the final of the ITA Southwest Regional. He had a perfect 3-0 record at the North Ranch Invite and reached the consolation final of the ITA Fall National Championships. As a freshman in 2021, Fellin went 9-5 in overall singles with a 3-0 record in conference play while playing mainly at the #6 position. He did not drop a set throughout conference play.

#72 Tim Zeitvogel (Baden-Baden, Germany) reached the singles round of 32 at the ITA Southwest Regional and teamed up with Corrado Summaria to advance to the quarterfinals in doubles at the ITA Southwest Regional. He prepares for his final season in Malibu after going unbeaten as a junior and having not lost a dual singles match since March 20, 2019. Zeitvogel was named All-WCC singles honorable mention in 2019 while going undefeated in WCC regular season play.

#99 Eric Hadigian (Sacramento, Calif.), a Gonzaga transfer, went 15-6 this fall. He went 3-0 at the North Ranch Invite and advanced to the main draw of the ITA All-American Championships after going 7-0 in the prequalifying and qualifying rounds. He teamed up with Luque Rico to make a run to the round of 16 in doubles at the ITA Southwest Regional. While at Gonzaga during the 2019-20 season, Hadigian posted a 14-6 overall record before the season was cut short due to COVID-19.

#101 Enrique Luque Rico (Cordoba, Spain) prepares for his last season in a Waves uniform after a 10-3 fall campaign in singles. He advanced to the round of 16 at the ITA Southwest Regional in both singles and doubles. Luque Rico also posted solid outings at the UCSB Classic, finishing as runner-up, and at the North Ranch Invite where he went a perfect 3-0 on the weekend. As a sophomore in 2020, he went 6-2 in dual singles.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Stanford finished 2021 with an 11-6 record, including 6-1 in league play. The Cardinal received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, where they advanced to the second round before falling to #5 Virginia, 4-2. The Arizona Wildcats opened 2022 with a 7-0 home win against Grand Canyon on Sunday, January 16. They will host #3 Texas on Friday, January 21 before making the trip to Malibu. Arizona went 21-8 in 2021 and broke through to the Sweet 16 before falling to #3 Tennessee in a heartbreaker, 4-3.
