MALIBU, California – Pepperdine alum
Sahith Theegala, the 2020 college national player of the year, earned his PGA Tour card for the 2021-22 season following this past weekend's Korn Ferry Tour Finals.
Twenty-five PGA Tour cards were awarded at the conclusion of the event, and Theegala ranked eighth on the tour finals points standings.
"It's surreal, it's hard not to smile because this is what everyone out here is working for," Theegala told the PGA Tour. "You can't explain the feeling. To be able to say I got my tour card is pretty special."
He made the cut at eight out of 11 Korn Ferry Tour events, including a sixth-place finish at this weekend's Korn Ferry Tour Championship. He also tied for fourth at the Nationwide Children's Hospital Championship the previous week.
Theegala also played in seven PGA Tour events in 2020-21 and made the cut four times, including a tie for 14th place at the Safeway Open.
Theegala (Chino Hills, Calif./Diamond Bar HS) turned pro after graduating in 2020. He was the unanimous national player of the year that year after winning the Haskins, Hogan and Nicklaus awards and ending the season as the nation's top-ranked player. He was a three-time All-American for the Waves and holds the school record with a 70.61 career scoring average.
He becomes the seventh Wave to earn a PGA Tour card and will join Andrew Putnam on the active list of players. Past Waves who played on the PGA Tour also include Jason Allred, Jason Gore, Jeff Gove, Michael Putnam and Byron Smith.
