NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The #23 Pepperdine women's soccer team scored two goals in each half to take home a 4-1 victory at Vanderbilt on Sunday afternoon.
Three different Waves found the back of the net, including
Tori Waldeck who scored twice in the second half only three minutes apart. The Waves (5-1-0) outshot the Commodores (2-3-1) 16-9, and have now outshot every opponent faced so far.
The Waves (5-1-0) have their best six-game start since 2012 (also 5-1) and it's only the second time in program history the Waves have won their first five road games of the season (2003). In addition, the four goals scored against Vanderbilt ties the most ever goals scored against an SEC opponent (Arkansas 2001, Auburn 2003).
GOALS
Pepperdine 2': Junior midfielder
Carlee Giammona (Las Vegas, Nev./Palo Verde HS/Alabama) sent in a cross from the right side. Waldeck (Newhall, Calif./Hart HS) had a little touch in the box against a Vanderbilt defender, keeping the ball moving toward the left post. Redshirt senior midfielder
Joelle Anderson (San Jose, Calif./ Harker School) ran onto it and scored. This marks Anderson's 27th career goal for the Waves, who is now tied for fifth place all-time at Pepperdine. It was her second goal in two games.
Pepperdine 35': Senior defender
Trinity Watson (Ocean Beach, Calif./Point Loma HS) took a corner kick for the Waves. Redshirt senior defender
Kelsey Hill (Elk Grove, Calif./Saint Mary's) jumped higher than all the Vanderbilt defenders for a header that found the back of the net. This marks Hill's first career goal as a Wave.
Pepperdine 47': Anderson sent in a corner kick to the far post, while Giammona headed it toward the goal. The ball took a touch off of Waldeck and found the back of the net.
Pepperdine 50': Giammona won the ball in the attacking end and hit it forward to Waldeck, who turned and let loose a rocket from 30 yards out. This marks Waldeck's first career two-goal game for the Waves. Additionally, Giammona collected her third assist of the match, tying the Pepperdine record.
Vanderbilt 85': The Commodores drew a foul in the box that resulted in a penalty kick. Ella Shamburger took the kick that found the bottom right corner of the net for her first career goal.

Head Coach
Tim Ward said: "Wow…what a game and what a weekend! Today's performance was truly special as we came out of the gate firing.
"That was a special first goal for Joelle … a great ball from Carlee and such a subtle dummy by Tori to free up Jo on the back post. The second goal was a brilliant delivery from Trin on the corner and a world class header by
Kelsey Hill for her first goal in a Waves uniform.
"We dodged a bullet late in the first half, but came out so strong in the second with our third goal, another set piece and a great header by Carlee and again, a super clever flick of a finish by Tori. The final goal was an absolute cracker from distance from Tori, so good.
"Overall, our defensive work rate was excellent and we couldn't be more proud of all of the ladies. Finally, I want to say a huge thank you to all of the wonderful Wave families and alums that supported our team in Nashville this weekend. We felt so loved by those folks and it was a big reason why we were flying today."
