OLYMPIA FIELDS, Illinois – The Pepperdine men's golf team's first tournament since winning the national championship this past spring resulted in a tie for eighth place at the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational.

The Waves had a three-day total of 862 (293-281-288) at the par-70 Olympia Fields Country Club.

Pepperdine's first tournament of the season featured the top five teams that were in the Bushnell Golfweek coaches preseason poll and 10 from the top 25. The Waves were ranked #1 in the preseason poll (and are now #3).

PLAYER SCORES

Senior Derek Hitchner (Minneapolis, Minn./The Blake School) tied for 17th place at 213 (72-69-72). He had two birdies in the final round.
Senior Joey Vrzich (El Cajon, Calif./Christian HS/Nevada) tied for 24th at 215 (73-71-71). He posted five birdies on Sunday. Vrzich had a team-high total of 12 birdies, one off the tournament high.
Junior Dylan Menante (Carlsbad, Calif./Sage Creek HS) tied for 28th at 216 (73-71-72). He notched one birdie today.
Senior Joe Highsmith (Lakewood, Wash./Bellarmine Prep) tied for 56th at 222 (75-70-77). His final round had two birdies, which came on 1 and 18.
Junior William Mouw (Chino, Calif./Ontario Christian HS) tied for 75th at 229 (77-79-73). He recorded one birdie on Sunday.

UP NEXT

Pepperdine's second tournament of the fall is the Colonial Collegiate Invitational, hosted by TCU, from October 4-5.
