#5 Women's Tennis Set to Host NCAA First and Second Rounds

MALIBU, Calif. – The fifth-ranked Pepperdine women's tennis team is set to host #28 Stanford, UC Santa Barbara and Northern Arizona this weekend for the NCAA First and Second Rounds.
It is Pepperdine's 37th overall NCAA Tournament appearance, as well as the 33rd-straight season that the Waves have competed in the postseason.

ON NORTHERN ARIZONA
Earning the automatic bid from the Big Sky Conference, NAU comes to Malibu with a 14-4 record- dropping to Arizona twice, Arizona State and WCC-member Pacific. This will be the first meeting between the two programs. The Lumberjacks sport no ranked singles or doubles players.
ON UCSB
The 13-3 Gauchos roll back into Malibu this weekend after winning their respective Big West Conference title. UCSB's three losses have come by the hands of Cal, Stanford and the Waves back in March- a match where Pepperdine blanked the Gauchos 7-0. Ranked for UC Santa Barbara is #108 Shakhnoza Khatmova in singles. All time, the Waves are 33-7 against UCSB.
ON STANFORD
Sitting at #28 in the most recent ITA rankings, Stanford has dropped to the likes of UCLA, Oregon and Cal, as well as a 4-3 thriller to the Waves in April. Since then, the Cardinal finished their Pac-12 championship run in the conference semifinals, falling to #27 Cal 4-1. Stanford is the home to two ranked singles players in #46 Michaela Gordon and #118 Angelica Blake.
SURF REPORT
The #5 Waves head into the weekend on a five-match winning streak, most recently defeating San Diego for the WCC Championship crown- the team's eighth in a row and 38th overall.
During the win, senior and 21st-ranked Jessica Failla completed her straight-set win first, going 6-2, 6-1 over Elizabeth Goldsmith. Freshman Nikki Redelijjk clinched the match and the championship for the Waves on court six, going 6-1, 6-3, but #77 Ashley Lahey earned the defeat of then-#57 Solymar Colling in three- 6-2, 2-6, 6-1.
Two Waves are riding major win streaks into the postseason, as freshman Taisiya Pachkaleva has won her last 20 dual singles matches, currently sitting at 22-1. She has not lost a match playing on an outdoor court this season, playing anywhere from court two to court five. Sophomore Lisa Zaar has also won her last 18 matches this season, going a total of 19-1 on courts four through six.
In doubles, the pair of Pachkaleva and Zaar stands at 13-5 this season, going undefeated in WCC play.
The #5 Waves are 6-3 against nationally-ranked opponents this season.
ATTENDANCE:
Only those on the team/institution guests lists will be permitted entry to the venue. There will be no public sale of tickets. Guests must fulfill one of the following requirements in order to be permitted entry to the venue per Los Angeles County guidelines. These requirements are also listed on the team guests form. Guests will be denied entry if they do not show appropriate documentation.
Hosting Spectators from the State of California: Currently, there are no restrictions in place for guests who are coming from the State of California. Guests arriving at the competition venue will be required to demonstrate that they are California residents by showing an ID at entry (e.g., valid California ID or student ID).
Hosting Spectators from Out of State: Upon arriving to the competition venue, all guests arriving as out-of-state guests will be required to give proof of full vaccination. Guests that have attested to full vaccination must show the venue the required verification, which includes photograph identification and a proof of vaccination such as the following:
- Vaccination card (which includes the name of person vaccinated, type of vaccination provided and date last dose administered)
- Photo of a vaccination card as a separate document
- Photo of the attendee's vaccine card stored on a phone or electronic device, or
- Documentation of vaccination from a healthcare provider
A limited number of seats have been reserved for Pepperdine faculty, staff and students who present a valid Pepperdine University ID. Theses seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
All guests must follow state, local and University COVID-19 protocols, which include wearing masks at all times (except when actively eating or drinking) and adhering to physical distancing rules in place at both venues. Concessions will not be available at any athletic venue; however, spectators will be allowed to bring their own food and water.
