PLAY-BY-PLAY
The Waves got the scoring started in the top of the first as Modlin drove in
Billy Cook (Monument, Colo./Lewis Palmer HS) with a single after Cook's double to take a 1-0 lead. Pacific answered with a solo home run in the bottom of the first to tie the game at one. A bases loaded double added two more runs to give the Tigers a 3-1 lead. Two more runs on an RBI single extended the Tiger lead to 5-1 after an inning of play.
In the top of the second, Johnson hit a ball deep to left center, over the wall for a solo home run to cut the Tigers' lead to 5-2. Two RBI singles and an RBI groundout from Pacific gave the Tigers an 8-2 lead. Another RBI single extended the lead to 9-2 through two innings.
In the fifth,
Wyatt Young (Honolulu, Hawaii/Mid-Pacific Institute) reached on an error before Alexiades doubled him in. Alexiades then scored on Modlin's second RBI single of the day. Pacific led 9-4 through five.
After
Justin Lutes walked and stole second to open the sixth inning, he was moved to third on a groundout.
Charles Masino (Newbury Park, Calif./Oaks Christian HS) then hit a chopper to short, beating it out for an RBI single that cut the Tigers' lead to 9-5. Pacific answered in the bottom of the inning with a home run, scoring a baserunner on the basepaths. However, Jeremy Lee, who hit the ball over the fence, never touched home plate, and left the field of play, which resulted in his being called out. That resulted in the Tigers getting just one run in the inning, and a 10-5 lead through six.
In the seventh, Pacific got another run on an RBI double to take an 11-5 lead after seven innings of play.
A two-run home run from Alexiades in the top of the ninth got the Waves to within four, but could not come all the way back.
