LAKE NONA, Florida – Guy Den Ouden and Adrian Oetzbach of the Pepperdine men's tennis team advanced into the NCAA Doubles Tournament quarterfinals on Tuesday afternoon at the USTA National Campus after outlasting Bryde/Zink from Georgia by a score of 6-4, 5-7, 10-4.
Â
The tandem is the 15th overall Pepperdine team to play in the tournament quarterfinals, and the first since 2014 when Francis Alcantara and Alex Sarkissian achieved the feat.
Â
Â
Den Ouden and Oetzbach are also the first to be named ITA Doubles All-Americans since that season, joining elite company and adding to the 40+ list of Pepperdine greats. It is the freshman and senior's first such award, as Oetzbach will leave Malibu as an All-American. Den Ouden is the first freshman to garner the accolade since 2006 when Andre Begemann earned the award with partner Scott Doerner- the same year the Waves won the team title.
Â
UP NEXT
The Waves will take on Troost/Lobak of Minnesota who defeated the bracket's top-seed Tuesday afternoon 6-4, 3-6, 10-4. First serve is set for 3 p.m. PT/6 p.m. ET on Wednesday.
Â
In 2019-20, Pepperdine hiked to Minneapolis, defeating the Gophers 5-2 while court one doubles team Oetzbach and Daniel De Jonge beat Troost/Lobak 6-4.
