Men's Golf in Tight Battle at NCAA Regional

CLE ELUM, Washington – It all comes down to Wednesday as the Pepperdine men's golf team finds itself locked in a close battle for a top-five finish after Tuesday's second round at the NCAA Cle Elum Regional.

The Waves are tied for fifth place with an even-par 568 (279-289) after two days at the par-71 Tumble Creek Golf Club. The top five teams will advance to the NCAA Championships.

The Waves are tied with Utah. They'll start Wednesday's final round three shots back of fourth-place Wake Forest (-3). East Tennessee State (-18), San Francisco (-7) and Washington (-6) have put some distance between themselves and the cut line. Lurking right behind Pepperdine in seventh is Denver (+2), while Florida (+6) and Oregon (+7) are a bit further back.

Pepperdine, the 1997 NCAA champion, is attempting to qualify for the NCAA finals for the 11th time in program history. The Waves are the #2 seed at this regional.

- Senior Clay Feagler (Laguna Niguel, Calif./Dana Hills HS) is tied for 10th place with a 1-under 141 (70-71). He had four birdies in his even-par round, and for the second consecutive day, he had a run of three straight birdies on 13, 14 and 15.
- Senior Joey Vrzich (El Cajon, Calif./Christian HS/Nevada) is also tied for 10th with a 1-under 141 (69-72). He posted four birdies on Tuesday, including three on the front nine.
- Sophomore William Mouw (Chino, Calif./Ontario Christian HS) is tied for 23rd at 143 (72-71). His round began with back-to-back bogeys but he posted 14 pars and two birdies the rest of the way to finish at even-par.
- Junior Joe Highsmith (Lakewood, Wash./Bellarmine Prep) is tied for 23rd at 143 (68-75). He had two birdies on the day.
- Sophomore Dylan Menante (Carlsbad, Calif./Sage Creek HS) is 63rd at 152 (76-76).
