Men's Golf Qualifies for NCAA Finals

CLE ELUM, Washington – Led by Joey Vrzich's 6-under 65, the Pepperdine men's golf team turned in the best score of the day at Wednesday's final round of the NCAA Cle Elum Regional, securing the Waves a spot at next week's NCAA Championships.

The top five teams advanced and the Waves came in fourth place with a 1-under 851 (279-289-283) at the par-71 Tumble Creek Golf Club.

Pepperdine, the #2 seed, came into the final round tied for fifth place, but got off to a good start and avoided any drama by improving one spot in the standings and finishing 10 strokes better than sixth. At 1-under, the Waves were the only team to finish below-par on Wednesday.

Pepperdine, the 1997 national champion, has qualified for the NCAA finals for the 11th time in program history. Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona, will host the 2021 NCAA Championships from May 28-June 2. The Waves finished 11th in 2019, the last time the event was held.

- Senior Joey Vrzich (El Cajon, Calif./Christian HS/Nevada) ended up in a tie for second place after his big final round. He posted a 7-under 206 (69-72-65), one shot back of the winner. It's the best finish by a Wave at an NCAA Regional since Josh Anderson was medalist in 2012. Vrzich had a total of seven birdies today, including four of his final seven holes. His 65 was the best score of the day and the second-best of the tournament. He had a total of 16 birdies, more than any other player, and he had the best cumulative score on par-4s at 6-under.
- Sophomore William Mouw (Chino, Calif./Ontario Christian HS) tied for 16th with an even-par 213 (72-71-70). His 1-under in the final round featured four birdies. He led the tournament with a total of 41 pars.
- Senior Clay Feagler (Laguna Niguel, Calif./Dana Hills HS) also tied for 16th with an even-par 213 (70-71-72). He had two birdies on Wednesday and was second on the team with 11 overall.
- Junior Joe Highsmith (Lakewood, Wash./Bellarmine Prep) tied for 39th at 220 (68-75-77). He had one birdie in the final round.
- Sophomore Dylan Menante (Carlsbad, Calif./Sage Creek HS) tied for 61st at 228 (76-76-76). He had two birdies today.
