Women's Soccer Posts Big Senior Day Win vs. San Diego

MALIBU, CaliforniaJoelle Anderson had two goals and two assists on Senior Day to lead the Pepperdine women's soccer team to a 7-0 victory over San Diego in West Coast Conference play on Saturday.

The Waves (6-3-1, 5-1-1) scored five goals in the first 19 minutes against the Toreros (1-7-0, 1-5-0). Pepperdine nearly equaled its school record of six goals in a half as the Waves hit the crossbar twice and forced USD's goalkeeper to make a fingertip save on one occasion. But after taking a 5-0 lead into the break, the Waves scored twice more in the second half to reach a season high for goals.

Pepperdine used three goalkeepers to record its fifth shutout in WCC play. The Waves outshot the Toreros 24-5.

GOALS

Pepperdine 6': A USD defender headed the ball out of the box, and senior forward Joelle Anderson (San Jose, Calif./Harker School) got to it first. After cutting back to her right, she fired in a shot from 18 yards out that beat the goalkeeper to the right.

Pepperdine 9': Senior defender Laura Ishikawa (Westlake Village, Calif./Westlake HS) sent the ball to the right side for fellow senior defender Erin Sinai (Carlsbad, Calif./Carlsbad HS). She sent in a cross, and it was met with a powerful header from six yards out by junior forward Leyla McFarland (Bonita, Calif./Eastlake HS), who scored her third goal of the season.

Pepperdine 10': Anderson got her second goal in less than five minutes as she linked up with McFarland. Just past midfield, Anderson sent the ball to McFarland, who with one touch sent it back in front of a sprinting Anderson. At the top of the box, she stopped and hit a perfectly placed low shot to the far corner. It was her third goal of the season and the 24th of her career, which ranks eighth all-time at Pepperdine.

Pepperdine 12': Freshman forward Tori Waldeck (Newhall, Calif./Hart HS) got taken down in the box and a penalty kick was awarded. Senior defender Emily Sample (Plano, Texas/Plano West Senior HS) stepped up and converted the PK for her second goal of the season.

Pepperdine 19': Waldeck then got on the scoreboard to make it 5-0. Anderson hit a perfect ball from midfield that bounced past a USD defender and to an on-rushing Waldeck, who got into the box for a 1v1 versus the keeper. She scored easily for her fourth goal of the season, which is tied for the team high.

Pepperdine 58': After a number of near-misses as the first half went on, the Waves finally got their sixth goal early in the second half. Anderson gave the ball to sophomore midfielder Shelby Little (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Hillcrest Christian HS), who hit a rocket from about 25 yards out that hit the underside of the crossbar and went in. It was Little's first goal of the season and the fourth of her career.

Pepperdine 88': Senior forward Aliyah Satterfield (Valencia, Calif./West Ranch HS) added the final goal late. Senior midfielder Madi Cook (Trabuco Canyon, Calif./Tesoro HS) played the ball from the left side over to the right for Satterfield. Satterfield made a nice move to evade several defenders, get into the box and finish with a low shot inside the right post. She's now scored all three of her career goals in the last five games.
