Men's Golf Has Record Start at WCC Championships

HENDERSON, Nevada – The Pepperdine men's golf team shattered the West Coast Conference Championships record for single-round team score and has opened up an eight-stroke lead after Thursday's first round.

Pepperdine fired a 19-under 269 at the par-72 Reflection Golf Club. The Waves, who have won the last two WCC titles and a league-best 20 overall, lead BYU by eight and San Francisco by nine.

Four Waves shot 4-under or better. The 19-under is the second-best single-round score in program history (the school record is 22-under).

Pepperdine's previous best round at the WCC Championships was 13-under, accomplished three times. The previous WCC record was 15-under set by Saint Mary's in 2016.

- Junior Joe Highsmith (Lakewood, Wash./Bellarmine Prep), sophomore Dylan Menante (Carlsbad, Calif./Sage Creek HS) and sophomore William Mouw (Chino, Calif./Ontario Christian HS) are all tied for third place after 5-under 67s. They are all one shot back of the leaders. Menante had a team-best seven birdies, including a run of three straight on holes 13-14-15. Highsmith had six birdies. Mouw had five birdies, including four in a row between 9-12, and zero miscues.
- Senior Clay Feagler (Laguna Niguel, Calif./Dana Hills HS) is tied for seventh after a 4-under 68. He had six birdies on the day.
- Senior Joey Vrzich (El Cajon, Calif./Christian HS/Nevada) is tied for 28th after a 73. He had three birdies today.
