Women's Tennis Hits the Road for Conference Finale

MALIBU, Calif. – The seventh-ranked Pepperdine women's tennis will look to garner its eighth-straight West Coast Conference regular-season title this weekend at BYU and San Diego.

Should the Waves defeat both the Cougars and Toreros, Pepperdine will achieve the eighth regular-season title in as many years since the WCC began recognizing the award in 2012 (with the exception of the 2020 dual season).

MATCH #22: #7 Pepperdine (18-3, 6-0 WCC) at BYU (15-8, 4-3 WCC) | Friday, April 23 | 10 a.m. PT | Provo, Utah | Livestream | Scoring

MATCH #23: #7 Pepperdine (18-3, 6-0 WCC) at San Diego (13-3, 6-0 WCC) | Sunday, April 25 | 11 a.m. PT | San Diego, Calif. | Scoring

ON THE OPPONENTS
Sitting fourth in the WCC at 15-8 overall and 4-3 in conference play, BYU has dropped matches to Saint Mary's, San Diego and San Francisco- all of whom the Waves have defeated decisively. The Cougars have no ranked singles or doubles players.

San Diego, on the other hand, currently sits at 6-0 in WCC play, going 13-3 on the season. The Toreros pose the biggest threat to the Waves' title hopes, and are riding an eight-match win streak, following a 6-0 defeat of Washington State on Wednesday afternoon. Their three losses have come against UCLA, USC and Cal, all of which were handed losses by Pepperdine earlier in the season with the Waves sweeping the Trojans and Bears.

Ranked for the Toreros is #57 Solymar Colling- a familiar foe to the Waves as she has appeared in many of the same Fall singles tournaments as Pepperdine players. Most recently, graduate senior Jessica Failla defeated Colling in the ITA Fall Nationals back in November in the tournament quarterfinals 6-3, 6-3.

SURF REPORT
The #7 Waves are coming off of a 3-1 week where they won three-straight against WCC foes Portland and Gonzaga and their fifth Pac-12 opponent of the season in Washington State.

This week's ITA rankings hold Failla at #26, Ashley Lahey and #113 and Taisiya Pachkaleva at #116.

IT'S A WAVE'S WORLD
Without a WCC Championship tournament in place for this year, the automatic qualifier will be given to the outright regular-season champion. In years past, Pepperdine has earned 27 total first place finishes in the WCC Tournament, while no other school has more than one singular title.

UP NEXT
Pepperdine will wait in anticipation to be placed in the NCAA First and Second Rounds, with the selection show to be aired at 3 p.m. PT Monday, May 3 at NCAA.com.
