LAST TIME AT PCSCS
Last season at conference the Waves peaked at the right time, as six school records fell and the team took home three PCSC titles. Specifically, both the 200 and the 800 free relay teams set school records en route to winning conference titles, plus Sammie Slater (Sonora, Calif./Sonora HS) won the 200 free to give the Waves its first PCSC individual champion since Jessica Mosbaugh won the 100-yard breaststroke in 2016.
Aside from the conference titles and school records, Pepperdine saw 16 swimmers earn All-PCSC first team honors — seven of whom will race in this year's conference meet. The aforementioned Slater and fellow senior Paige Brackett (Folsom, Calif./Granite Bay HS) will race at their fourth PCSC Championships of their four-year careers; last year at this meet, the duo swam together on Pepperdine's school-record-setting 800 free relay team.
The bulk of last year's freshmen return as well: Emily Morton (Golden, Colo./Lakewood HS) set school records in the 400 IM and the 200-yard backstroke at PCSCs last season, whereas Jenna Sanchez (Highland, Calif./Redlands East Valley HS) and Jasmine Williams (Folsom, Calif./Folsom HS) will look to build upon the school records they set on Pepperdine's 200 free relay at this meet last year. Over on the diving side, Olivia Stotz (Western Spring, Ill./Lyons Township HS) will compete at the conference meet once again after earning All-PCSC first team honors in the 1-meter dive as a freshman.
Speaking of diving, Paulina Holmberg (Apple Valley, Minn./Academy of Holy Angels) is the only other diver with PCSC Championship experience. The junior has earned All-PCSC first team awards in the 3-meter dive in the past two seasons, plus earned first-team all-conference awards in the 1-meter dive for the first time last year.Â
Due to these performances, interim head coach Jana Vincent was named the PCSC Coach of the Meet last year, joining longtime head coach Nick Rodionoff as the only other Pepperdine coach to win the award.
