Waves Make First of Three Trips to Fresno Pacific This Weekend

MALIBU, Calif. — After a brief foray into the land of cross country running, the Pepperdine Waves track team will regroup for the Central California Invitational in Fresno, Calif. this Saturday, March 4. The meet is scheduled to start at noon, local time.
As it stands, this weekend's meet will be the Waves' first of three track meets scheduled to take place at Fresno Pacific. They will meander up I-5 two more times this season for the State Central Invitational (Mar. 20) and the Wildflower Invitational (April 10).
Pepperdine is one of nine schools (and one of four Division I programs) signed up for the Central California Invitational. San José State, Cal State Bakersfield and Fresno State round out the D1 competition at the event.
LAST LAP
The last time the Waves competed at a track meet was an eventful one.
At Westmont's Sunshine Invitational on Feb. 13, Junior Karl Winter (Stockton, Calif./Saint Mary's HS) broke the program's 5,000-meter record with a 14:31.58 before anchoring the Waves' 4x800 relay team that took second. On the sprints side, graduate transfer Kennedy Kerr (West Hempstead, N.Y./Long Island Lutheran) made a good first impression in a Pepperdine uniform by running the fifth-best 200-meter dash time in program history.
Pepperdine's most recent race, however, was the 2020 WCC Cross Country Championships on Feb. 24. At that race, the men's team placed fifth — a program-best team finish at the conference race since 2008 — while the women's team placed 10th.
