#7 Waves Split the Day in Irvine, Sweep Concordia

IRVINE, Calif. – The #7 Pepperdine faced a pair of opponents in Irvine on Saturday afternoon, falling 4-1 to PCH Cup rival and #6-ranked LMU before sweeping past host Concordia.

Simone Priebe and Melanie Paul defeated both their opponents in the No. 2 slot. The Waves dropped to 3-10 overall this season and will play their last home matches on Tuesday in Malibu with a rematch against the Lions included.

MATCH RECAPS
In the first match, the Waves split the opening rounds. After dropping court four, Simone Priebe and Melanie Paul took down Iya Lindahl and Megan Rice 14-21, 22-20, 15-12 to even things up. LMU picked up wins on courts three and five to clinch the dual and though the Waves' on one fought tough, the duo lost in three to make it a 4-1 Lions' victory.

The second dual was a different story, however, as the Waves swept past the Eagles for a second time this season. In the first flight, Priebe and Paul made quick 21-13, 21-18 work of their opposition on court two to start things off. Jordan Benoit and Mary Sinclair then battled it out on four, winning 25-23, 21-15 to put Pepperdine in a position to clinch.

In the second flight, the Waves on one would do the honors, with Carly Skjodt and Brook Bauer taking care of their Eagles pair 21-9, 21-16 to clinch the overall victory.

Sutton Mactavish and Alexis Filipponne then defeated their opposition in the No. 3 position 21-17, 21-18 to extend the Waves' lead before Katie Gavin and Michaela Kasper downed their opponents on five 21-19, 21-17 to complete the sweep. Kristine Briede and Cameron Baklenko also played in the exhibition position, winning 21-12, 21-15 in the second matchup.

NEXT UP
On Tuesday, the Waves play their final home duals with a pair of matches against PCH Cup rival LMU and Vanguard at 10 a.m. and 12 p.m.

Per the current COVID-19 guidelines set by the state of California and Los Angeles County, fans will not be permitted to attend home games.
